A woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing her sister-in-law in a violent outburst over a marijuana grinder in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On July 2022, Tulsa Police officers were dispatched to a store after shots were fired. Upon arrival, officers found Estrella Mendoza, deceased from a gunshot wound. Security footage showed Flanner and Estrella enter the store together, but after leaving, Estrella was seen crawling away from Flanner before collapsing. Flanner was seen fleeing the scene.
A witness stated that he tried to help Estrella. Before going unconscious, Estrella said that Flanner shot her. Officers went to Flanner’s residence, where they found the vehicle she left in that had fresh blood splatter and the firearm used.
Flanner, a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, claimed she shot her sister-in-law over a marijuana grinder that Estrella would not return to her.
On an unspecified date, U.S. District Judge John F. Heil, III sentenced Alexis Danielle Flanner, 26, to 240 months followed by five years of supervised release.
Flanner will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. The FBI and Tulsa Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Aaron Jolly and Valeria Luster prosecuted the case.
