SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – In a stunning blow to the drug trade in southwest Missouri, Edward Uribe, 37, from Oklahoma City, has been handed down a 300-month federal prison sentence for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy.
The sentence, imposed by U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool, is a life sentence without parole. It’s accompanied by an order to forfeit $210,000 in drug proceeds to the government.
Uribe pleaded guilty on November 25, 2024, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He admitted his involvement in a years-long operation spanning Barry, Stone, Polk, Lawrence, Green, Jasper, and Newton counties from November 1, 2020, until April 28, 2022.
According to court documents, Uribe was the primary supplier of meth for the organization from February 1, 2022, to April 28, 2022. During that time, he funneled over 460 pounds of meth from Oklahoma into Missouri.
Intriguingly, Uribe used a contraband cell phone to communicate with his co-conspirators and arranged the purchase of a drone for drug smuggling purposes, showcasing his sophisticated criminal methods.
This sentence comes as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which has targeted some 20 defendants in this case. Uribe is the eighteenth to face justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica R. Eatmon prosecuted the case, while a coalition of law enforcement agencies, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol and DEA, conducted the investigation.
