MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Salvador Diaz-Hermosillo, a 39-year-old Mexican national unlawfully present in the United States, faced justice as he was sentenced to 6 months in prison for Illegal Alien in Possession of a Firearm.
The sentence came after an intensive investigation by the Sallisaw Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division. Diaz-Hermosillo pleaded guilty on March 12, 2025, to knowingly possessing a semi-automatic rifle within Oklahoma’s Eastern District.
Under Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(5), illegal aliens are strictly prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. This case is a significant part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide DOJ initiative aimed at eradicating illegal immigration and criminal organizations.
Operation Take Back America, which involves coordinated efforts from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), has been pivotal in safeguarding communities from violent crime.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, oversaw the hearing. Diaz-Hermosillo was then remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and is awaiting transportation to a federal prison to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Dak T. Cohen represented the United States in this pivotal case against illegal immigration and gun violations.
