Alfonso Lorenzo Boyd, Fentanyl Distribution, Florida 2024

Plant City became a killing ground for cheap, lethal fentanyl pushed by Alfonso Lorenzo Boyd (36, Tampa) and Victor Jason Valentin (28, Mulberry)—two men now behind bars after a federal crackdown tied directly to a fatal overdose at a local apartment complex.

U.S. District Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell handed down a 15-year-and-8-month sentence to Boyd and 3 years and 10 months to Valentin, both for conspiring to distribute heroin and fentanyl. The pair pleaded guilty in October 2019, but the damage had already been done—by then, one of their neighbors was already dead from a dose sold out of their shared unit.

The investigation began in November 2017, sparked by the overdose death at the Plant City complex. Law enforcement swarmed in, uncovering a steady stream of users funneling in and out of Boyd and Valentin’s apartment. Witnesses described people stumbling away, glassy-eyed and barely conscious—signs of a toxic drug operation thriving in plain sight.

Boyd, labeled a career offender, wasn’t just a dealer—he was a manufacturer of misery. He obtained raw heroin and fentanyl, mixed them into a potent cocktail, packaged it, and sold it under the street name “feny dope.” It was a brand built on addiction, and it left a trail of devastation in a working-class community already on edge.

Valentin, though receiving a lighter sentence, played a key role in the distribution network. He acted as a gatekeeper, facilitating sales to other residents in the complex. While not the mastermind, his complicity helped normalize the open-air drug trade that turned their apartment into a poison hub.

The case was jointly investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Plant City Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Sinacore prosecuted. The message from federal authorities is clear: when fentanyl kills, the dealers will pay—with time.
