Alfred Henderson, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Mississippi 2018

A Brookhaven man has landed himself behind bars after being caught illegally possessing a firearm, authorities announced today.

Alfred Henderson, 28, of Brookhaven, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, announced U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and Special Agent in Charge Dana Nichols with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Henderson was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine.

On October 23, 2017, a confidential informant successfully purchased a .44 Caliber rifle from Henderson, a previously convicted felon, on parole. Henderson was previously convicted in Lincoln County for sale of controlled substances, burglary of a dwelling, and conspiracy to commit burglary.

He was indicted on July 25, 2018, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He pled guilty before Judge Bramlette on January 9, 2019.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Candace Gregory Mayberry.

Henderson’s prison term will be followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence was announced in Jackson, Miss.

Authorities warn that possessing a firearm as a convicted felon carries severe penalties, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the law.
