Davenport, IA – In a shocking turn of events, two Iowa City men have been found guilty in a heroin distribution case that has left the community reeling. Alfred Latrell Jackson, 25, and Curtis Lee Kemp, 49, both of Iowa City, Iowa, were convicted following a four-day jury trial for their involvement in a heroin distribution conspiracy.
According to the evidence presented at trial, Jackson and Kemp conspired with others to distribute heroin in the Iowa City area between December 2013 and May 2015. The jury found Jackson guilty of one count of conspiracy to distribute at least 100 grams of heroin, while Kemp was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and three counts of distribution of heroin.
The investigation into the heroin distribution ring was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Johnson County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Coralville Police Department, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Drug Enforcement Agency, Iowa City Police Department, North Liberty Police Department, University of Iowa Police Department, Muscatine County Drug Task Force, and the Washington County Drug Force.
The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose presided over the jury trial.
Jackson faces a maximum sentence of 40 years imprisonment, while Kemp may be sentenced up to 20 years on each of the four counts he was found guilty of. Kemp is scheduled to be sentenced on August 19, 2016, at 8:30 a.m., while Jackson will be sentenced on the same day at 11:15 a.m.
The heroin distribution conspiracy has left the community in shock, with many wondering how such a large-scale operation could have gone undetected for so long. However, law enforcement officials remain tight-lipped about the details of the case, citing ongoing investigations.
As the sentencing date approaches, the community is bracing itself for the consequences of the heroin distribution conspiracy. Will Jackson and Kemp receive the maximum sentence, or will they receive a lighter punishment? Only time will tell.
