Alfred Stewart, a 34-year-old man from St. John the Baptist Parish, has been sentenced to 97 months in federal prison for violating federal firearms and narcotics laws. Stewart pled guilty to several counts of an indictment charging him with conspiring to distribute cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, cocaine base, and methamphetamine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
On February 7, 2023, United States District Court Judge Wendy B. Vitter handed down the sentence, which includes 37 months in prison for the narcotics offenses and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Additionally, Stewart was sentenced to 60 consecutive months for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, resulting in a total sentence of 97 months in federal prison.
According to U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans, Stewart’s case was investigated by agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr. of the Narcotics Unit.
Stewart’s sentence also includes 5 years of supervised release following his release from custody. He was ordered to pay a mandatory special assessment fee totaling $400. The sentence reflects the severity of Stewart’s crimes and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combating federal firearms and narcotics violations.
The investigation and prosecution of Stewart’s case demonstrate the ongoing efforts of federal and local authorities to address the scourge of drug trafficking and firearms offenses in Louisiana.
