Syracuse, NY – A 24-year-old man from Mexico has been charged with illegally reentering the United States without inspection, announced United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian.

Jesus Alberto Medina-Montes was indicted yesterday for allegedly reentering the country without inspection after being previously removed. Medina-Montes, an alien, was previously removed from the United States to Mexico on October 26, 2010, but was found in Parish, New York on April 7, 2016.

The indictment charges Medina-Montes with illegal reentry of a removed alien, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of 2 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 1 year.

Medina-Montes was arrested on April 8, 2016, pursuant to a Criminal Complaint and is being detained without bail pending trial by order of the court. The case is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs & Border Protection.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Levine is prosecuting the case. Medina-Montes is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
