Restaurant Owner Pleads Guilty to Harboring Illegal Aliens
A shocking crime has shaken the community of Farmington, New York, as J. Guadalupe Hernandez, 29, pleaded guilty to harboring illegal aliens. Hernandez, the owner of the El Jimador Mexican Restaurant, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa J. Miller, Hernandez knowingly or recklessly disregarded the fact that three men were unlawfully present in the United States and harbored them at his restaurant. The men, who admitted to working at the restaurant and being paid in cash by Hernandez, were discovered living in the restaurant’s basement during a search warrant executed by Homeland Security Investigations in March 2011.
The investigation, led by Special Agent in Charge James C. Spero, uncovered a disturbing trend of exploitation and disregard for the law. Hernandez’s actions not only put the community at risk but also violated the trust of his customers and employees.
The plea deal marks a significant victory for law enforcement, who worked tirelessly to bring Hernandez to justice. Sentencing will be scheduled before U.S. District Court Judge David G. Larimer.
