Adrian Isaac Pimentel-Garcia, a 20-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, and Juan Carlos Lopez Jr., 24, of Laredo, Texas, were sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for smuggling illegal aliens and assaulting federal agents. The incidents occurred on December 4-5, 2025, in south Laredo, where Border Patrol agents discovered groups of aliens who had crossed into the United States from the Rio Grande. Pimentel-Garcia and Lopez pleaded guilty to bringing an alien to the United States and assault on federal officers.
On December 5, 2025, Pimentel-Garcia led a group of aliens and attempted to escape by climbing a rooftop. When a Border Patrol agent tried to stop him, Pimentel-Garcia jumped off a fence and dropkicked the agent in the face, knocking him to the ground. The day prior, Lopez was caught driving a vehicle picking up aliens as they exited the Rio Grande near southwest Laredo.
The court heard from the victims, who described how the experiences would affect them for the rest of their careers. Despite this, they expressed forgiveness. U.S. District Judge Diana Saldana emphasized that the outcome could have been much worse, stating that but for the Grace of God, no one died. Lopez will serve a three-year term of supervised release, while Pimentel-Garcia is expected to face removal proceedings following his imprisonment.
The sentences reflect the seriousness of the crimes committed by Pimentel-Garcia and Lopez. The incidents highlight the dangers faced by federal agents and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
