Jose Angel Martinez Menjivar, a 34-year-old Salvadoran national and convicted sex offender, has been sentenced to 40 months in federal prison for reentering the United States without authorization. Menjivar, who has previous convictions for illegal reentry and indecent assault, was found in Houston on July 9, 2025, despite being removed from the country in 2022.
Menjivar pleaded guilty to the charges on February 18 and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison. Following his imprisonment, he is expected to face removal proceedings. The case was investigated by Immigration Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations and prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie Law.
The sentence is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime. Menjivar’s case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals who repeatedly attempt to enter the country without authorization.
