DETROIT — A sophisticated operation involving the smuggling of high-end vehicles overseas has met its match as eight Southeast Michigan men face a staggering array of charges, announced United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr.
The defendants, Haydar Al Haydari, 41, of Garden City; Karar Alnakash, 43, of Detroit; Abbas Al Othman, 42; of Dearborn Heights; Mohammed Al Hilo, 36, of Detroit; Moustapha Al Fetlawi, 46, of Dearborn Heights; Terrill Davis, 33, of Detroit; David Roshinsky Williams, 32, of Harper Woods; and Mohammed Al Abboodi, 35, of Detroit, have been charged with conspiracy to transport stolen vehicles and transportation of a stolen vehicle.
The ring is accused of operating from July 2023 through August 2025, where they received stolen vehicles at commercial/industrial lots before packing them into shipping containers for overseas shipment. The total number of stolen vehicles recovered stands at over 350, with each defendant facing serious penalties if convicted.
United States Attorney Gorgon emphasized the importance of this operation in combating stolen cars in interstate commerce and foreign trade, commending the diligent work of law enforcement partners involved in recovering the vehicles. ICE HSI Detroit’s acting Special Agent in Charge, Matthew Stentz, highlighted the impact of auto theft not just on wallets but also on culture in Michigan.
Reuben Coleman, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office, emphasized the importance of law enforcement collaboration and commitment to protecting community integrity. Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin thanked partners in the Southeast Michigan Auto Crimes Consortium (SMACC) and acknowledged support from the Auto Theft Prevention Authority (ATPA).
The case serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some will go to exploit borders for unlawful purposes, with the defendants facing potentially decades in prison if convicted.
