Allen Jones, Kidnapping, Iowa 2024

A Monona County, Iowa man has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for kidnapping his coworker at gunpoint.

Allen Jones, 35, of Ute, Iowa, was sentenced to 192 months’ imprisonment on August 2, 2024, for his guilty plea to kidnapping, which occurred on March 19, 2024.

According to the evidence in the case, Jones called his employer on July 7, 2023, stating that his car would not start and that he needed a ride to work. His supervisor instructed a co-worker to pick him up at his residence, where Jones lured the co-worker into the garage, pointed a loaded shotgun at him, and said ‘we are going for a ride.’

Jones held his victim at gunpoint, forced him into his car, and ordered him to drive to a nearby casino. He told his victim that he planned to ‘shoot up the casino’ and use him as a human shield.

On the way to the casino, Jones instructed his victim to change course, wanting to confront a former girlfriend before carrying out the mass-shooting. Near Mapleton, Iowa, Jones directed his victim to stop at a gas station, where the victim was able to flee and find help.

Jones was located and arrested after fleeing the gas station on foot. Deputies found methamphetamine on his person and a loaded shotgun in his truck. A subsequent search of his home revealed additional firearms, ammunition, various prescription pills, methamphetamine, and other contraband.

Jones has a lengthy criminal history, including a 2013 federal conviction for illegally possessing a firearm as a felon and a history of marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine use.
