Allen Ray Idell Jr., Felon in Possession of Firearms, Oklahoma 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY – Allen Ray Idell Jr., 46, of Oklahoma City, is facing more than a decade behind bars after a wild crime spree culminated in a high-speed chase and a brazen home invasion, ultimately landing him a 144-month federal prison sentence. U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester announced the sentencing yesterday, detailing a case fueled by disregard for the law and the safety of the public.

The trouble began September 15, 2022, when Idell allegedly stole a vehicle from an 80-year-old woman. The theft quickly escalated into a dangerous pursuit with Idell, armed with firearms stolen from the same victim, leading authorities on a high-speed chase through city streets. The chase ended violently when Idell crashed the stolen vehicle into a private gate and then fled into a nearby occupied residence. He was quickly apprehended by responding officers.

Federal investigators soon discovered Idell was no stranger to the criminal justice system. A grand jury indicted him October 19, 2022, on one count of being a felon in possession of firearms. Idell pleaded guilty to the indictment February 9, 2023. During yesterday’s sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Charles Goodwin didn’t mince words, citing Idell’s “dangerous conduct” and “extreme” offense as justification for the lengthy sentence. The Judge also emphasized Idell’s complete disrespect for both the law and the well-being of others.

Idell’s rap sheet is extensive. Court records reveal multiple prior felony convictions in Cleveland and Oklahoma Counties, including second-degree burglary, possession of stolen property, concealing stolen property, false declaration of ownership, possession of drug paraphernalia, and malicious injury to property. Case numbers from Cleveland County District Court include CF-2008-773, CF-2009-59, and CF-2009-1112, with Oklahoma County District Court case number CR-2014-217 adding to the list.

The case was a joint effort by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Oklahoma City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany Edgmon prosecuted the case. Authorities also highlighted that this prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through focused federal enforcement.

Following the completion of his 144-month prison term, Idell will be subject to three years of supervised release. This case serves as a stark warning: illegally possessing firearms after a felony conviction will result in serious federal consequences, and the Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and others like it as they unfold.
