Almarez Henderson, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Indiana 2022

FORT WAYNE, INDIANA – A Fort Wayne man has been sentenced to 180 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Almarez Henderson, 55, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Holly A. Brady after pleading guilty to possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime, announced United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.

Henderson was stopped by police in April 2022 after leaving a local hotel where officers had observed him going in and out of rooms. During the traffic stop, officers discovered that Henderson’s driver’s license was suspended and that he had an active warrant. A search of his vehicle uncovered a knife, a 9mm firearm, methamphetamine, and other items consistent with drug distribution.

Henderson’s arrest was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with the assistance of the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration laboratory. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stacey R. Speith.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve. The program has two core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, and setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities.

Henderson’s sentence will be followed by 5 years of supervised release. The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to reducing the flow of illegal drugs and firearms in our communities.
