Greenville Man Pleads Guilty to Child Porn Charges, Faces Up to 20 Years in Prison

A Greenville man has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina.
Alton Davis, 47, admitted to using his computer and the internet to search for and view images of child pornography. An undercover officer downloaded two child porn images from Davis using peer-to-peer software on October 14, 2015. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant and executed it at Davis’s home on November 10, 2015.
During the search, Davis admitted to using search terms associated with child pornography and viewing images on his computer. The case was investigated by agents of the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Bill Watkins handled the case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorney’s Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
According to the plea agreement, Davis is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years due to a prior child pornography conviction. The maximum penalty he can receive is a fine of $250,000 and/or imprisonment for 20 years, plus a special assessment of $100.
