Washington – The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has taken a significant step in promoting equality within its ranks by appointing Amanda J. Lavis as the Director of the agency’s new Office of Equal Employment Opportunity (OEEO).
This move marks a pivotal moment for the FDIC, as the OEEO is designed to serve as a central hub for employee discrimination and retaliation complaints. Lavis will spearhead the OEEO’s efforts in investigating and resolving such issues, ensuring a fair workplace environment.
Lavis brings extensive experience to her new role, having most recently served as the Chief Culture Officer for the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM). In this capacity, she was the primary EEO advisor to the Commanding General and executive leadership, demonstrating her ability to navigate complex organizational structures.
Before joining the military, Lavis served as Hawaii’s EEO Officer, advising both the Governor and the Executive Branch. Her legal background includes a Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law, a Master of Business Administration from Shippensburg University, and a Bachelor of Science in International Business from Messiah University.
As an attorney and partner at Rhoads & Sinon LLP, Lavis advised financial institutions and other private sector clients on employment issues and EEO compliance. Her expertise in these areas makes her a perfect fit for leading the OEEO under the FDIC’s new Office of Professional Conduct (OPC).
The appointment of Lavis reflects the FDIC’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and discrimination-free workplace. It also highlights the agency’s dedication to upholding ethical standards and ensuring that every employee has a fair chance to succeed.
