A Northern Indiana woman has been sentenced to decades in prison after pleading guilty to aiding in the murder of her 6-year-old stepson.
Amanda L. Smith, 37, of LaPorte County, was sentenced to 60 years in prison, with 30 years suspended, for her role in the death of her stepson, identified as A.M., in 2022.
According to court documents, Smith and her husband, identified as J.S., were charged with murder and neglect of a dependent in connection with the child’s death.
Smith pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aiding in the murder of a minor, and her husband pleaded guilty to murder and neglect of a dependent.
The couple’s sentencing comes after a lengthy investigation by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police.
