Amber L. Bayer, False Statement to a Firearms Dealer, Wisconsin 2021

Local Woman Faces Firearms Charge

A 29-year-old woman from Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, has been indicted on a federal firearm charge.

Amber L. Bayer, a resident of Oconto Falls, was charged with making a false statement to a licensed firearms dealer in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(a)(6) and 924(a)(2).

The indictment alleges that Bayer made a false statement to a representative of Dunham’s Sports in Marinette, Wisconsin, on December 4, 2020. Bayer allegedly claimed that she was purchasing a 9mm firearm for herself, when in fact, she was purchasing the firearm for another individual.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Marinette Police Department, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Menominee (Michigan) Police Department. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble.

According to the indictment, if convicted, Bayer faces a maximum penalty of up to ten years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove her guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
