Amber M. Salts, Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, Illinois 2016

Washington Park woman, Amber M. Salts, was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in federal district court in East St. Louis. The 29-year-old woman was required to register as a sex offender after being previously convicted of Permitting the Sexual Abuse of a Child in 2009 in Madison County, Illinois.

According to authorities, Salts failed to register as a sex offender after moving from Rolla, Missouri, to Washington Park, Illinois, between April 2015 and July 2015. She was subsequently charged with one count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the federal government to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel T. Kapsak.

Salts is set to be sentenced on April 15, 2016, at 10 a.m. before the Honorable David R. Herndon, where she faces up to 10 years in prison, fines up to $250,000, or both.
