A 29-year-old Washington Park woman has been convicted of failing to register as a sex offender, the result of a federal investigation led by the United States Marshals Service.
Amber M. Salts, a resident of Washington Park, Illinois, pleaded guilty in federal district court in East St. Louis to one count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. The conviction stems from her failure to update her registration in Missouri after moving to Illinois in 2015.
According to court records, Salts was previously convicted of Permitting the Sexual Abuse of a Child in 2009 in Madison County, Illinois, and was required to register as a sex offender.
The offense occurred between April 2015 and July 2015, during which time Salts failed to register as a sex offender in Illinois or update her registration in Missouri.
Salts faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, fines up to $250,000, or both, when she is sentenced on April 15, 2016, at 10 a.m. before the Honorable David R. Herndon.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children and to identify and rescue victims.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel T. Kapsak.
