United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell dropped a bombshell in Rapid City, announcing that Aric Singing Goose, also known as Eric Sharpfish, has been sentenced to an eye-watering nine years and nine months in federal prison for assault by strangulation and failing to register as a sex offender.
The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on July 11, 2025, also mandates eight years of supervised release and a $200 fine to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Singing Goose’s descent into legal hell began in December 2023 when he was indicted by a federal grand jury for his crimes. He entered a guilty plea on April 9, 2025, sealing his fate.
The defendant is no stranger to justice. In 2009, Singing Goose was convicted of two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in federal court. His latest offense came on October 31, 2023, when he met with a 16-year-old girl at Oglala and, after drinking, subjected her to a terrifying attack. He threw her to the ground, strangled her, and left his DNA as evidence. The girl’s life was nearly ended that day.
This case is a testament to the Major Crimes Act, which requires certain violent crimes committed in Indian country to be prosecuted at the federal level. The U.S. Marshals Service and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety conducted the investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen took charge of the prosecution.
Singing Goose is currently being held by the U.S. Marshals Service, marking a grim end to his criminal career. The community can breathe easier knowing justice has been served.
