Clarkston Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Attempted Child Porn Production
A Clarkston man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for attempting to produce child pornography, according to a federal prosecutor in Spokane.
Christopher A. Knox, 50, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Edward F. Shea after he pleaded guilty to Attempted Production of Child Pornography in July 2013. Knox will also be subject to a life term of court supervision after his release from prison.
The investigation into Knox’s crimes was sparked by a probe into a mother who used her children to produce images of child pornography. Pamela Ortega, the mother, pleaded guilty to three counts of Rape of a Minor and was sentenced to 300 months in prison in Washington state.
As part of the investigation, the FBI discovered that Knox was communicating with Ortega about producing child pornography images. On March 30, 2011, agents executed a search warrant at Knox’s residence and found a laptop containing images of child pornography.
Prosecutors said that pursuing cases involving the production and distribution of child pornography is a priority for the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Washington.
The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project involves federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working together to investigate and prosecute child exploitation cases, and to identify and rescue victims.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie J. Lister prosecuted the case.
