Rochester, NY – In a disturbing case, Zachary S. Dressner, a 38-year-old man from Rochester, has pleaded guilty to possessing images of child pornography. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley E. Tyler, between July and November 2011, Dressner used his home computer to acquire and download images of children younger than 16 years of age. The images included the minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This project marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
The plea is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced the guilty plea, stating that his office is committed to protecting the children of this community and holding accountable those who would seek to harm them.
Dressner’s sentencing is scheduled for September 5, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. before Judge Charles J. Siragusa. The community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that one less predator is on the loose, but it’s a sobering reminder that this crime is still a pressing issue.
