Donald Egan, Child Pornography Possession, New York 2024

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography. Donald Egan, 52, was convicted of the crime after he was found with a cellular telephone containing over 30 images of prepubescent minors.

This is Egan’s third conviction for possession of child pornography, with previous convictions in 2002 and 2006. The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-In-Charge Gary Loeffert.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan P. Cantil, who handled the case, stated that Egan’s actions were ‘outrageous’ and demonstrated a ‘callous disregard’ for the well-being of the victims. ‘The possession of child pornography is a serious crime, and those who commit it will be held accountable,’ Cantil said.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara handed down the 10-year sentence, citing the severity of Egan’s crimes. ‘The possession of child pornography is a serious offense that causes harm to the victims and undermines the safety and well-being of our communities,’ Arcara said.

Egan’s sentence is a result of his repeated failure to comply with the terms of his supervised release. According to U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr., Egan’s behavior ‘demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of our community.’

The U.S. Probation & Pretrial Services Office, under the direction of Chief U.S. Probation Officer Anthony San Giacomo, assisted in the investigation. The case is a reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against child exploitation.
