A 58-year-old Trenton, Florida man, Bryan James Shuping, has been indicted on 13 counts of producing child pornography and one count of possessing it. The alleged crimes took place in Gainesville, Florida, where Shuping was arraigned in federal court. The indictment, announced by United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida John P. Heekin, is the result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations and the Gainesville Police Department. If convicted, Shuping faces a minimum of 15 years and up to 30 years in prison for each production count, and up to 20 years for the possession count.
The case against Shuping is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet and to identify and rescue victims.
Shuping’s arraignment was held before United States Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry in Gainesville, and his jury trial is scheduled for September 2, 2026, before Chief District Court Judge Allen C. Winsor. Assistant United States Attorney Tyler A. Fleming is prosecuting the case.
