Chandler Brittain Smith, a 27-year-old from Tallahassee, Florida, pleaded guilty to attempting to entice a minor for sex and transferring obscene material to a child. The crimes occurred in November 2025, during an undercover operation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Tallahassee Police Department. Smith was caught sending explicit messages and photos to an undercover investigator posing as a minor child, with the intention of meeting the child for sex.
Smith’s arrest was the result of a two-day operation in Leon County, where law enforcement used an online social media platform to pose as a minor. During this time, Smith sent multiple explicit messages and an obscene photo to the undercover investigator, in an attempt to persuade the fictitious child to meet him for sexual activity.
On November 10, 2025, Smith traveled to a pre-determined meeting location, where he was arrested. He now faces a minimum of 5 years in prison and up to life imprisonment for the attempted enticement count, as well as up to 10 years for the attempted transfer of obscene materials count. Sentencing is scheduled for September 18, 2026, at the United States Courthouse in Tallahassee, Florida.
The case highlights the growing threat of online child exploitation and the importance of law enforcement efforts to catch predators. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin stated that his office will continue to aggressively prosecute individuals who seek to sexually exploit and victimize children using the internet.
