In a shocking turn of events, a shoplifting arrest led to the downfall of Lamar Bunch, 35, of Tallahassee, Florida, who pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The incident occurred when an off-duty Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputy caught Bunch shoplifting at Dillards. As the deputy attempted to detain him, Bunch fled on foot but was eventually caught and arrested. A search of his backpack yielded a stolen pair of pants and a 9-millimeter pistol.
Bunch’s prior felony convictions for burglary, robbery, and attempted burglary prohibited him from possessing firearms. The investigation involved the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, the Tallahassee Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James A. McCain.
