A 38-year-old man from Deland, Florida, Shane Christopher Abrams, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for attempting to entice and use a 13-year-old child to produce sexually explicit photos. The incident occurred between April 3 and April 20, 2024, when Abrams engaged in a text conversation with an undercover FBI agent posing as a 13-year-old child on a social media application. Abrams asked the child about her body and sexual experience, despite being told she was 13 years old, and solicited her to produce and send him explicit photos.
Abrams gave the child explicit instructions on how to comply with his demands and sent her photos of his own genitalia in an attempt to entice her. On May 20, 2024, Abrams was arrested by FBI agents. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.
The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe, and Abrams pleaded guilty on March 5, 2026. In addition to the 15-year prison sentence, Abrams was ordered to serve a 15-year term of supervised release and to register as a sex offender.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify, rescue, and provide support to victims.
