In a brazen series of armed robberies, a Jacksonville crew terrorized retail stores in April and May 2024, making off with over $11,000 in cash. The crew, consisting of Tresonda Benefield, Nathanial Carter, Jakeithiyan Daniel, and Jackeri Lewis, all residents of Jacksonville, used masks and firearms to intimidate store employees into handing over the loot. The robberies occurred between April 9 and May 1, 2024, with the crew targeting four stores in the Jacksonville area.
The crew’s modus operandi involved Benefield surveilling the stores prior to the robberies, then driving the others to the scene just before closing time. Once the employees began to lock up, the crew would approach, brandishing firearms and demanding that the employees reopen the store and hand over the cash from the safe.
The investigation, led by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, culminated in the crew’s guilty pleas, with Benefield, Carter, and Daniel pleading guilty on July 8, 2025, and Lewis pleading guilty on June 9, 2025. The crew was subsequently sentenced to federal prison terms, with Benefield, Carter, and Lewis receiving 16 years and 1 month, and Daniel receiving 14 years and 6 months.
The sentences were announced by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe, with the case prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro. The crew was also ordered to pay restitution for the stolen funds.
