NEW ORLEANS, LA – In a shocking turn of events, Anacleto Silva-Herrera, a/k/a ‘Chofer,’ was indicted on December 8, 2023, for possession with intent to distribute five (5) kilograms or more of cocaine.
The indictment, announced by United States Attorney Duane A. Evans, alleges that Silva-Herrera violated Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A).
If convicted, Silva-Herrera faces a minimum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years up to a maximum term of life imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000,000.00, at least five (5) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This prosecution is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Louisiana State Police, and the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit.
