Wyoming Man Sentenced for Wire Fraud
A 60-year-old man from Worland, Wyoming, has been sentenced for wire fraud. Andrew Jivelekas, 60, was sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson on April 6, 2016, after appearing pursuant to a summons.
Jivelekas was found guilty of fraudulently obtaining unemployment benefits from the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, Unemployment Insurance Division. He invented a sham company and submitted quarterly reports to the department, falsely reporting earnings by various purported employees. Jivelekas repeatedly filed for unemployment benefits in the names of the purported employees, claiming they had been laid off.
According to the U.S. Secret Service, which investigated the case, Jivelekas obtained $25,781.73 in fraudulent benefits. He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, to be followed by two years of supervised release. Jivelekas was also ordered to pay a $100.00 special assessment and the restitution amount.
