Fugitive Fleeing Justice: Motorcyclist’s High-Speed Chase Ends in Methamphetamine Bust

A high-speed chase on I-69 near Angola ended in a methamphetamine seizure, leaving one man facing serious time behind bars.

On August 20, 2016, an Angola Police officer attempted to pull over Andrew L. Fitch, 32, for speeding on his motorcycle. Instead of complying, Fitch accelerated rapidly, sparking a heated pursuit that reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour.

During the chase, Fitch lost control of his motorcycle and was apprehended. A search of his person and the motorcycle revealed a stash of methamphetamine, scales, a glass pipe, pills, and baggies containing 66 grams of the illicit substance.

Fitch, who had an active arrest warrant at the time, was taken into custody and found to be in possession of $1,655.29. The Angola man’s actions have earned him a harsh sentence, with U.S. District Court Judge Holly A. Brady handing down a 121-month prison term.

The sentence, which includes 5 years of supervised release, is a stark reminder of the consequences of attempting to flee from law enforcement. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Angola Police Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony W. Geller led the prosecution, ensuring that Fitch faced justice for his crimes. This high-profile case serves as a warning to those considering engaging in illicit activities: the risk of a lengthy prison sentence is very real.
