Andrew Stowell, 67, Sentenced to 46 Months in Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking
A 67-year-old man from Altoona, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking organization in the region. Andrew Stowell was part of an Altoona-based drug trafficking organization that was the target of a six-month wiretap investigation by federal authorities.
According to court documents, Stowell sold a quarter-pound of methamphetamine to an undercover police officer on December 12, 2022, on behalf of the leader of the organization. The undercover purchase was made as part of the wiretap investigation, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines imposed the sentence on Stowell, who will also serve two years of supervised release after his prison term. Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan D. Lusty prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti commended the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Service–Office of Inspector General, United States Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations, Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, and Pennsylvania State Police for their roles in the investigation.
The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which targets high-level drug traffickers and money launderers. OCDETF uses a multi-agency approach to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks.
Stowell’s sentence is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trafficking organization, which was responsible for distributing the highly addictive and dangerous drug in Blair, Cambria, Centre, and Clearfield counties.
