Boston Man Sentenced for Misusing U.S. Citizen’s Social Security Number

BOSTON, MA – In a recent case of identity theft, Angel Bautista Rossi, a 44-year-old Dominican national, was sentenced for misusing a U.S. citizen’s social security number.

On January 11, 2022, U.S. District Court Judge William G. Young sentenced Rossi to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release. Upon completion of his sentence, Rossi will be subject to deportation proceedings.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Rossi used the stolen identity to obtain a Massachusetts driver’s license and medical benefits in August 2017. Rossi was arrested in Norfolk County on unrelated drug charges in July 2020 while using the stolen identity.

United States Attorney Rachael S. Rollins and John Cremonini, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, Boston Field Office, made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine of Rollins’ Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.

The misuse of a social security number is a serious crime that can have severe consequences. The U.S. Attorney’s Office takes identity theft cases seriously and will continue to prosecute those who commit these crimes.

Rossi’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting one’s personal identity and the consequences of misusing someone else’s information.
