Angelica Escobedo Bernal, 33, Arrested in Mexico for Meth Trafficking in Memphis, TN

MEMPHIS, TN – In a major blow to the methamphetamine trade, U.S. Marshals Service has successfully located and apprehended a fugitive in Mexico, with the extradition process now underway to bring the defendant back to West Tennessee.

According to information presented in court, Angelica Escobedo Bernal, 33, of Tamaulipas, Mexico, was indicted in the Western District of Tennessee on February 6, 2024 for Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Aiding and Abetting the Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.

On December 11, 2024, Bernal was apprehended in Mexico by the U.S. Marshals Service, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in the Western District of Tennessee.

U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant praised the efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service, stating, ‘This arrest demonstrates the commitment of federal law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle the methamphetamine trade in our community.’

The extradition process is now underway to bring Bernal back to the United States to face charges. If convicted, Bernal faces up to 20 years in prison for Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and up to 20 years for Aiding and Abetting the Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.

The investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in the Western District of Tennessee remains ongoing, with federal law enforcement agencies working tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle the networks responsible for introducing this deadly substance into our communities.
