ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA – A Randolph County man was sentenced to 19 months in prison for illegally possessing a stolen firearm, according to Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen.
Anthony Blackburn, 26, of Elkins, West Virginia, was sentenced to 19 months incarceration for illegally possessing a stolen firearm.
In April 2016, Blackburn possessed a 9mm pistol and a .380 caliber pistol.
Blackburn had previously been convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence in Randolph County Magistrate County in April 2009.
Blackburn pled guilty to one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm’ in December 2016.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen D. Warner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
The Mountain Region Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department investigated, with U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presiding over the case.
Blackburn’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing mark a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat gun violence in the region.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions and ensuring public safety.
