St. Louis, MO – A shocking case of corporate greed has come to light in the City of St. Louis, Missouri, as Anthony Davis, president of Mail Handlers Local 314, has been indicted for his alleged embezzlement of approximately $40,660 of union funds.
The 41-year-old Davis, of O’Fallon, IL, was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 23, on one count of embezzlement of Labor Union funds. He appeared in federal court on Monday, April 28, where he faced the charges.
The indictment alleges that Davis misused the union funds for his own personal gain, a serious breach of trust that has left many in the community outraged. The U.S. Department of Labor-Office of Inspector General and Office of Labor-Management Standards investigated the case, and Assistant United States Attorney Dianna Collins is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
If convicted, Davis faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or fines up to $10,000. In determining the actual sentences, the Judge will be required to consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide recommended sentencing ranges.
As is always the case, charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.
