Daniel Paulino, Embezzlement, Missouri 2024

⏱ 3 min read

Former Velda City police chief Daniel Paulino, 52, has been sentenced to 27 months in the slammer for stealing $307,100 from the Missouri city he was sworn to protect.

Paulino, who held dual positions as police chief and city administrator from 2021 to 2024, took advantage of his roles to swindle the city out of $307,100 through a combination of check fraud, direct deposits, and credit card abuse.

He made off with nearly $30,000 in direct deposits, $37,500 in credit card transactions, and $54,693 in payroll deposits meant for his spouse, all of which he funneled into his personal bank account.

Paulino also used city funds to pay for personal expenses like travel, cars, pool supplies, and food.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Hal Goldsmith blasted Paulino’s betrayal, saying, ‘The city’s police chief, sworn to serve the citizens and the community, turned out to be a thief, stealing from the very community and people he was charged with protecting.’
