Acting US Attorney Charles Calenda gets new title, thanks Trump administration and DOJ for support, vows to keep Rhode Islanders safe from harm.
Calenda was appointed by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, effective today, and becomes the new Special Attorney and First Assistant US Attorney for the District of Rhode Island.
Since his appointment in December 2025, Calenda ran the US Attorney’s Office at ‘the highest levels of efficiency, integrity and professionalism.’
Calenda’s leadership and the Office’s professionalism were praised by the DOJ, which declined to exercise its appointment authority, citing the need for continuity and non-partisan work.
Calenda credits his support system, including the administration, colleagues, family, and friends, for enabling him to continue serving Rhode Islanders.
