⏱ 2 min read

Jack Montoucet, the former Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to take illegal kickbacks in exchange for awarding government contracts. The scheme, which took place in Lafayette, Louisiana, involved Montoucet corruptly soliciting and accepting kickbacks in return for being influenced in awarding state contracts. The guilty plea was entered on March 31, 2026.

According to court documents, Montoucet helped a co-conspirator secure a lucrative state contract to provide online courses in exchange for kickbacks. The FBI and local law enforcement were tipped off to the illegal activity, leading to an investigation and subsequent charges against Montoucet.

The former wildlife official faces up to five years in federal prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The case is being prosecuted by the US Attorney’s Office, with assistance from the FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation.

The guilty plea is a significant victory for law enforcement and the people of Louisiana, who demand honesty and integrity from public officials. As US Attorney Zachary A. Keller noted, ‘The citizens of Louisiana deserve and demand honesty and integrity from those entrusted with public office, including when they contract for services on behalf of our Louisiana communities.’
