Anthony Peter Arrindell, Attempted Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Distribute, Virginia 2023

A Marion, Virginia man was sentenced to 36 months in prison for his role in attempting to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl. According to court documents, Anthony Peter Arrindell, 20, ordered the illicit pills through the mail, which were intercepted by law enforcement.

On August 16, 2021, investigators conducted a controlled delivery of a parcel to the Post Office in Marion, where Arrindell collected the package. Upon leaving the Post Office, law enforcement confronted Arrindell and found approximately 200 pressed fentanyl pills in his possession.

The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Whit D. Pierce prosecuted the case.

Anthony Peter Arrindell was found to have ordered approximately 2,800 pressed fentanyl pills through the mail, with some pills being intercepted in two separate parcels. The pills were inconsistent in size, shape, and color, indicating they were counterfeit.

United States Attorney Christopher R. Kavanaugh stated that fentanyl and other powerful opioids continue to ravage Virginia communities as substance abuse disorder cases increase. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to prosecute those individuals who prey on the addictions of others and support those struggling to overcome addiction.

Arrindell was sentenced to 36 months in prison for attempted possession with the intent to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl. The case demonstrates the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the flow of illicit substances in Virginia communities.
