PITTSBURGH – A local man has been caught up in a federal cocaine trafficking conspiracy, according to a guilty plea entered in a Pittsburgh federal court.
Anthony Washington, 26, of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to one count of violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today.
Washington conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute less than 50 grams of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance, between 2017 and May 2018.
The law provides for a total sentence of not more than 20 years in prison, a fine not to exceed $1,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Washington’s sentencing is scheduled for May 30, 2019, at 11 a.m. before United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab.
The case was investigated by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which is a federally administered task force headed by the Drug Enforcement Administration and comprised of members drawn from several local law enforcement agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Pennsylvania State Police.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The OCDETF program provides critical federal funding and coordination that allows federal and state agencies to work together to successfully identify, investigate, and prosecute major interstate and international drug trafficking organizations and other criminal enterprises.
