Anthony Wayne Hall, Aggravated Bank Robbery, Nebraska 2022

A 65-year-old Fremont man has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in an aggravated bank robbery that occurred in November 2019.

Anthony Wayne Hall, who had previously been convicted of murder, rape, and seven prior armed robberies, was sentenced to life imprisonment under the federal "three strikes" law by United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr., in federal court in Omaha.

According to the evidence presented at trial, Hall robbed the First State Bank in Fremont on November 21, 2019, armed with a realistic-looking replica revolver. He left the bank with approximately $10,000 in cash after walking one bank employee to his vehicle under threat of being shot.

A customer who attempted to enter the bank during the robbery was the first to call 911. Hall then fled the scene and was eventually stopped by law enforcement in Saint Joseph, Missouri, where he crashed his vehicle and fled on foot.

Law enforcement located replica firearms, knives, and other items near the crash scene. The next day, on December 1, 2019, a trooper encountered Hall at a nearby gas station, where he was found to be in possession of five bills known to have been taken in the First State Bank robbery.

Acting United States Attorney Jan Sharp stated that Hall is the poster child for the type of offender who needs to be targeted for prosecution and long-term removal from society. He added that Hall has earned his life sentence.

The case was investigated by the Fremont Police Department, Saint Joseph Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Hall, who had relocated to Fremont from Indiana approximately two months prior to the First State Bank robbery, had been released from prison on his prior convictions in 2018.
