Anthony Zotti, Assaulting a Federal Officer, South Dakota 2017

A shocking incident of violence has shaken the community in St. Francis, South Dakota. Anthony Zotti, a 21-year-old local resident, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer.

According to the indictment, Zotti allegedly assaulted a federal law enforcement officer on May 25, 2017. The assault is said to have involved bodily injury.

U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced the indictment on June 14, 2017. Zotti appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on June 20, 2017, and pled not guilty to the Indictment.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case.

Zotti was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
