Ariel E. Collazo Ramos, Mailing Threatening Communications, North Carolina 2024

Ariel E. Collazo Ramos, 31, of High Point, North Carolina, is behind bars and facing federal charges for allegedly mailing an antisemitic threat to a Middle Georgia Rabbi.

According to court documents, Rabbi Elizabeth Bahar of Temple Beth Israel in Macon received a threatening postcard at her home via the U.S. Postal Service on February 1, 2024. The postcard, allegedly sent by Collazo Ramos, featured a handwritten message on one side and a hand-drawn image on the reverse.

The message read: ‘Is there a child rape, torture, and murder tunnel under your house? We have the Zyklon B. Use Code ‘GASTHEJEWS’ for 10% off!’ The image depicted a purported Jewish male wearing a rat costume with the words ‘JEWS ARE RATS.’

Collazo Ramos has been charged with one count of mailing threatening communications, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The case is being investigated by the FBI, with Deputy Criminal Chief Will Keyes prosecuting on behalf of the government and assistance from Trial Attorney Erin Monju of the Civil Rights Division’s Criminal Section.

A spokesperson for the DOJ emphasized that an indictment is merely an allegation of criminal conduct, and Collazo Ramos is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

Collazo Ramos’ initial appearance will take place in the Middle District of North Carolina at a time determined by the Court.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing outrage and concern over the rise of hate crimes in the region.

As this case continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the actions of Ariel E. Collazo Ramos, if proven guilty, will have severe consequences for the accused.

The Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
