Ariel E. Collazo Ramos, Mailing Threatening Communications, Georgia 2023

MACON, Ga. – The grimy halls of justice were again tested today as Ariel E. Collazo Ramos, 31, of High Point, North Carolina, was apprehended and charged on federal level for mailing an antisemitic threat to a revered Rabbi in Middle Georgia.

Collazo Ramos is facing one count of mailing threatening communications after a sinister postcard was delivered to Rabbi Elizabeth Bahar of Temple Beth Israel in Macon. The indictment against him was unsealed on May 2, following its return by a federal grand jury on April 9.

The chilling message inside the postcard alleged: ‘Is there a child rape, torture, and murder tunnel under your house? We have the Zyklon B. Use Code “GASTHEJEWS” for 10% off!’ The reverse side bore an unsettling image of a Jewish male in a rat costume with the words “JEWS ARE RATS” drawn prominently.

Should Collazo Ramos be convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine that tops $250,000. The Macon community has been reeling from this brazen act of hate.

The FBI is leading the investigation into this case, with Deputy Criminal Chief Will Keyes and Trial Attorney Erin Monju of the Civil Rights Division’s Criminal Section prosecuting on behalf of the Government. Remember, an indictment is merely an accusation, and Collazo Ramos is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

As we await his initial appearance in the Middle District of North Carolina, the grimy community remains vigilant against such heinous acts, hoping for justice and peace to be restored.
