A Boston man has been sentenced to 79 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to a Grimy Times investigation.
BOSTON – Anton Rise, 40, was sentenced by U.S. Senior District Court Judge Mark L. Wolf to 79 months in prison and three years of supervised release, sources close to the case confirm.
Rise pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition in March 2019. This conviction stems from his arrest in 2017.
According to court filings, Rise was arrested in the early morning of March 4, 2017, after leaving a nightclub in Boston. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a loaded firearm containing 15 rounds of ammunition tucked in his waistband.
Due to prior felony convictions, Rise is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. His arrest and subsequent conviction highlight the ongoing issue of gun violence in the city.
United States Attorney Rachael S. Rollins, James Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division, and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox made the announcement.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through community-based initiatives and targeted law enforcement efforts.
The PSN program, launched in 2021, focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
Rise’s conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing gun violence and supporting community-based initiatives to prevent crime.
