Antonio Chandler, Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Florida 2024

Antonio Chandler, 40, of Sanford, is headed to federal prison for his role in a cross-country cocaine trafficking ring that weaponized the U.S. mail system. Chandler was sentenced to five years by U.S. District Judge G. Kendall Sharp in Orlando today after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine. The conviction marks the latest fallout from a sprawling drug operation that funneled bulk narcotics from California to Central Florida through the United States Postal Service.

Chandler wasn’t acting alone. His co-conspirators, Dondi Kentrail Freeney and Telvin Williams, both entered guilty pleas in June 2019. Freeney received seven years and six months behind bars; Williams was sentenced to five years. A fourth member of the syndicate, Benjamin Robinson, fought the charges in court — and lost. Convicted by a jury on August 9, 2019, Robinson was handed more than nine years in federal prison for his central role in the scheme.

The operation ran like a dark logistics network. In January 2016, Chandler and his associates orchestrated multiple shipments of cocaine, each concealed inside tubs of protein powder and mailed from California. The FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted three packages — each packed with two kilograms of cocaine. That’s six kilos seized in plain cardboard boxes, stamped and sorted alongside everyday mail.

But the seizures only scratched the surface. Investigators uncovered evidence of four additional deliveries that slipped through undetected. In total, the ring successfully shipped 14 kilograms of cocaine through the postal system in just one month. At an estimated street value of $490,000, the haul represented a significant blow to the region’s drug supply — and a dangerous exploitation of public infrastructure.

Federal agents say the scheme relied on precision and deception. By using USPS, the traffickers hoped to avoid the scrutiny faced by private carriers or international couriers. The protein powder disguise was consistent, the packaging meticulous. But digital trails, surveillance, and interagency coordination unraveled the network. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with critical support from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the Volusia Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant United States Attorney Dana E. Hill prosecuted the case, pushing for accountability in a scheme that turned mail routes into drug corridors. The sentences send a clear message: exploiting the postal system for cocaine trafficking won’t go unpunished. For Chandler and his crew, the cost of their operation is now measured not in profits — but in prison years.
