Three Oshkosh men have been charged with conspiring to distribute over 100 grams of heroin in the Lake Winnebago area.
According to the indictment, Sherman M. Threets, 29, Lamarcus J. Cargill, 26, and Dustin J. Burdick, 23, all of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, are accused of violating Title 21 United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), (b)(1)(B), and Title 18 United States Code, Section 2.
If convicted, the defendants face a sentence of between 5 and 40 years imprisonment, a maximum fine of $5,000,000, a $100 special assessment, and a 4 year to life term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble.
It’s worth noting that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove them guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The indictment alleges that the heroin distribution occurred in the Lake Winnebago area, a region known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.
The investigation and prosecution of this case are a vital step in combating the opioid crisis that has gripped the nation.
The public is reminded that the U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators of these crimes to justice and to keep our communities safe.
